April Passport Clue #2 - Wear What Suits You

Mrs. Gray, known for her impeccable taste and style, enjoyed visiting some of the well-known designers in this country. She introduced us to, Mohamed Dagher, the son of the famous composer, Abdu Dagher. After attending school to study music, Mohamed changed paths and followed his true passion to become one of this country’s top fashion designers. Dagher’s philosophy on style is stated in his quote that “Not every dress suits every woman. What matters is that she wears something that precisely suits her.” After dredging through the sand with our tired little legs, Mrs. Gray took us to an indoor fashion show. We are not very tall, so our bellies definitely felt the heat of the sand. The cool floor was a welcome relief from the hot sand.

"How do they choose between all of those dresses?" questioned Scotch.

"I don't know. I am glad I only have one sweater during the winter season," Butter said relieved.
"Imagine how it would feel to wear that sweater in this climate,” Scotch sighed.

"How do we even wear fur in this heat?" Butter responded.

"You have a point," Scotch replied reluctantly.

Traveling vast lands of sand...

Stopping along the way with only the Grays’ canvas tent for protection, the dogs have been walking for hours without even a single tree in sight for shade or to mark their path. They’re on their way to visit one of the Seven Wonders of the World after spending a few days relaxing by the big river, but they weren’t prepared for such a journey!

“I wish we hadn’t left our compass at our last stop, Butter. I hope we’re walking the right way.”

“Walking in all of this sand is exhausting,” says Butter, “and the sun’s so hot!”

“I know,” squeaks Scotch, out of breath. “It looks like there’s a triangle of shade over there, beneath that – what is that?!”

“I don’t know Scotch, but I’ve seen some wall etchings along the way shaped like humans, birds, cats, and even dogs – so I think we must be headed in the right direction.”

Spring is here!

Spring is the most beautiful time of year at Graylyn! The estate is bursting with color during this season: the grass is bright green, yellow daffodils dot the landscape, and pink cherry blossoms are in full bloom.

Here are some of our staff’s thoughts about the start of this spring season. Feel free to share your spring pastimes with us!

Fresh cut grass in the morning sun…ON ANY golf course!! I love Spring!

Trout fishing, turkey hunting, kids playin' ball, gardening, crappie fishin', Bass fishin'...so little time so many fish to catch.

My favorite thing about spring is planting our garden! So far we’re working on onions, heirloom tomatoes, several different herbs, spinach, and peppers. Eating local doesn’t get any easier!

My daughter and I go hiking on the first day of spring and throughout the season.


My favorite things about spring are warmer weather, getting outside and playing for hours.


My allergies don't like it so much, but I love the budding trees and colorful flowers. The fresh cut green grass makes me want to walk barefoot and sit on nature's soft carpet. I love the opportunity to eat on our screened-in porch.


It is apparent that most everyone wants to enjoy what spring has to offer - golfing, gardening, fishing, playing 'ball, hiking, budding trees and flowers and the warmer weather. Seize the opportunity to go outdoors for any occasion.

Watch out! We are tagging along with Mr. Gray on his golf outing. We are thankful to be on dry land. The boat tour was fun, but steady ground is much preferred.

"Do you think Mr. Gray will let us chase the ball on the course?" asked Scotch.

"I prefer to lay on the green," yawned Butter.

Despite turning pro in 1993, Jeev Milkha Singh has truly broken onto the scene in recent PGA tournaments. His top 5 tour finishes all took place in 2009. This "man to be reckoned with" originally hales from the answer to March’s passport clue.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Today, many traditions will be acted upon for this famously green day of celebration in many different parts of the world including Japan, Singapore and Russia. The day may be celebrated with a pint of stout and wishing friends "Slainte!" (a toast to health). Here are some other traditions to consider:

The Shamrock, called 'seamroy' by the Celts, is a symbol used by many retailers and children alike to decorate for the holiday. The shamrock was a sacred plant in ancient Ireland symbolizing the rebirth of spring. Many Irish wore the shamrock as a symbol of pride in their heritage in protest of English rule.

The Leprechaun, Celtic folklore, is a tiny man or woman who uses magical powers to serve good or evil. They used their trickery to protect their storied treasure (gold perhaps). The modern leprechaun is an American invention of a cheerful, friendly figure brought on by the release of Walt Disney's film called Darby O'Gill & the Little People.

Corned beef and cabbage is a traditional menu served by many Irish-Americans to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. Corned beef only began to be associated with the holiday at the turn of the century. Irish immigrants used corned beef as a cheaper alternative to bacon.

Parades are an important part of celebrating the holiday. There are more than 100 parades throughout the United States with New York City and Boston holding the largest celebrations. The parade is 248 years old with the first parade on March 17, 1762 in New York City when Irish soldiers serving the English military marched in celebration.

Wearing Green has long been a tradition in the United States. The color is considered to be unlucky in Ireland. The pinch is to warn you that the Leprechauns can see you. If you wear green, you will be invisible and not receive the hurtful warning. Hope you are wearing green today. You may receive a pinch. Ouch!

Life Vests and Boats

The population of this country is many. We were able to find a spot to enjoy the people and the scenery. The Gray's took us on a boat tour of the city. They had life vests for dogs too.

"I was impressed, Scotch said proudly.

"I was a little afraid to get into the boat. Every time they put me in and take me out, I would automatically start "air swimming" over the water. It felt like I was going to fall and take a swim," Butter stated reluctantly.

We were able to obtain a photo from a tourist visiting this country. Enjoy viewing the photo and guessing the country.
